Winn-Dixie Issues Recall on Masa Real and Croissants
Jacksonville, FL - February 1, 2002 -- Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. today announced
a recall on Winn-Dixie bakery plain croissants, coconut masa real and guava
masa real because they may contain undeclared eggs. People who have an allergy
or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic
reaction if they consume these products.
The goods were distributed in Winn-Dixie stores in the following South Florida
counties: Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Dade, Hendry, Lee, Martin, Monroe, Okeechobee,
Palm Beach and Sarasota. The recall dates are for products distributed between
December 17, 2001 and February 3, 2002.
The croissants were packaged in a two, four or six pack clear tray and the
masa real was packaged in a nine count clear tray. Both had a sell date from
December 20, 2001 to February 3, 2002.
No illnesses have been reported at this date.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the croissants, coconut
masa real and guava masa real were distributed in packaging that did not indicate
the inclusion of eggs. Investigation reveals that the problem was caused by
computer error.
Winn-Dixie has corrected the error and anticipates no further problems.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the
place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Winn-Dixie
at 1-888-245-8584.
