Market Basket Brand Oats & More® with Honey Cereal Recalled Due to Undeclared Almonds
Tewksbury, MA - June 5, 2002 -- Demoulas Super Markets, Inc. of Tewksbury,
Massachusetts is recalling 396 cases (4,752 cartons) of Market Basket Brand
Oats & More® with Honey cereal bearing the Best If Used By
Date Code of APR1103J2 (found on the box top) because the product
may contain undeclared almonds. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity
to almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergenic reaction if
they consume this product.
Market Basket Oats & More® with Honey cereal was distributed through
Market Basket Stores in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The product is packaged
in cartons containing 16 oz. of product.
No illnesses have been reported to date, and no other products are affected
by this recall.
The recall was initiated after a question was raised with Market Basket personnel
about the possible presence of almond slices in the product although they were
not listed as an ingredient. Subsequent investigation indicated that the problem
was due to a procedural error related to the packaging process of the manufacturer
of the cereal which has since been corrected.
Consumers who have purchased Market Basket Oats & More® with Honey
bearing the APR1103J2 best if used by code are urged to return it a Market Basket
store for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Market Basket
