Lisy Corp. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Sulfites In Dried Shrimp Product

Miami, FL - April 11, 2002 -- Lisy Corp of Miami, FL is recalling their Lisy brand DRIED SHRIMP product, all lot numbers, because it contains undeclared sulfites. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites, run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Product was distributed to retail stores is the following states: Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia, Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Kentucky and Arizona.

The recalled product is packaged under the Lisy brand name in clear plastic bags with a paper label on top and the description of the product as follows: Small Dried Shrimp, 0.5 oz, item #705; Small Dried Shrimp, 1.5 oz., item #706; Salsa Dried Shrimp, 0.75 oz, item #708; Lemon and Natural Shrimp, 0.5 oz., item #709; Salsa natural Shrimp, 0.5 oz. item #710.

No allergic reactions have been reported to date.

The results of a sample analyzed by the Food and Drug Administration revealed that these products contain the undeclared allergen, sulfites.

Lisy Corporation is cooperating with the FDA and is voluntarily recalling from distributors and retailers down to the consumer level.

Consumers who have purchased Lisy Brand Dried Shrimp are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 305-836-6001.
