Kemps Foods Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts in Hagan Pennsylvania Vanilla Ice Cream
Lancaster, PA - May 29, 2002 -- Kemps Foods of Lancaster, PA is voluntarily
recalling 1/2 gallon containers of Hagan Pennsylvania Vanilla Ice Cream because
it contains Peanut Butter Ice Cream. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity
to peanuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if
they consume this product.
The product was distributed in West Virginia, Western Maryland, Eastern Ohio,
and Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, through retail stores.
The product comes in a l/2 gallon seround (oval 1/2 gallon) paper container
that is labeled Pennsylvania Vanilla, but the lid of the container is labeled
Peanut Butter Bender. The product inside the container is Peanut Butter Bender
Ice Cream. The product code is 0952 and is marked on the bottom of the container.
No illnesses have been reported to date in conjunction with this problem.
The recall was immediately issued after the peanut containing product was distributed
in packaging that did not reveal the presence of peanuts. Investigation indicates
that the problem was caused by a packaging error during the production process
that has been corrected.
Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return to the place
of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company
