FreshPoint of Denver Recalls Processed Fruits and Vegetables Due To Possible Health Risk

Denver, CO - June 26, 2002 -- FreshPoint Of Denver, Colorado is recalling 1,883 cases of the below assorted processed fruits and vegetables that has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.

The above products were distributed in the Denver Front Range area. Products were also distributed to a military commissary in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The products were distributed through retail stores and some food service operators.

We are conducting the recall on the above items with the production date of 6-14-2002 to 6-24-2002, Julian Date 165 to 175 or best if used by dates ranging from 06-20-2002 to 06-28-2002. This information can be found on the individual packages or shipping containers.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the company revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The production of the product has been suspended while the FDA and the company continue to investigate this issue.

Consumers who have purchased the above items are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with any questions may contact the company at 1-214-668-1501.
