Eden Brook Fish Market Inc. Recalls Smoked Trout Paté (Lot #071202) Due to Possible Health Risk

Monticello, NY - . July 30, 2002 - Eden Brook Fish Market Inc., 73 Pleasant St., Monticello, NY 12701 is recalling Smoked Trout Paté (Lot #071202) because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy persons may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth among pregnant women.

The recalled Smoked Trout Paté (Lot #071202) was sold retail in the New York City Farmers Market and at our retail store in Sullivan County. No illness has been reported to date in connection with the problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine sampling and testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Market Food Inspectors revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in some of the Smoked Trout Paté (Lot #071202). Sales of the product have been suspended while the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets continues their investigation as to the source of the problem.

Consumers who have purchased the Smoked Trout Paté (Lot#071202) are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a FULL REFUND. Consumers with any questions may contact the company at (845) 791-4345 or fax us at (845) 791-1601.
