Advance Food Int'l, Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Cashews and Almonds in "Chin Chin Snack Mix"

Maspeth, NY - March 12, 2002 -- Advance Food Int'l, Inc. of Maspeth, New York is recalling its 14oz packages of "Chin Chin Snack Mix" because they contain undeclared cashews and almonds. People who have allergies to cashews and almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The recalled "Chin Chin Snack Mix" was distributed to retail food stores in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, North Carolina and Virginia. The product comes in a 14oz clear plastic package stating "Imperial Savoury Snacks" with blue, yellow and red logo colors. There is no apparent code on the packaging.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall was initiated as a result of routine field sampling by Food Inspectors from the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets which discovered that the cashews/almonds-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of these ingredients.

Consumers who have purchased 14oz packages of "Chin Chin Snack Mix" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-482-0123.
