CPSC Launches Home Page on the World Wide Web

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is now on the World Wide Web. CPSC's web site, http://www.cpsc.gov, provides consumers direct access to lifesaving information on product recalls and hazards, research, and the agency's current calendar of meetings.

CPSC's web site features a variety of options, including "About CPSC," general information on the agency and how it keeps consumers safe in and around their homes; "What's happening at CPSC," news on research and upcoming events; and "News Desk," press releases on product recalls, and other items of interest to the media. The site also includes resources for consumers, such as recall notices; information for businesses; CPSC's public calendar; a search option; and a link to CPSC's gopher site.

The web site, which is constantly updated, will be expanded to include other information such as seasonal safety information for consumers, safety tips, and research on products and product-related injuries.

"CPSC's home page enables consumers to interact with CPSC to get lifesaving information quickly and easily," CPSC Chairman Ann Brown said. "We hope that as more consumers access our web site, injuries and deaths will be prevented."

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission protects the public from the unreasonable risk of injury or death from 15,000 types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. To report a dangerous product or a product-related injury and for information on CPSC's fax-on-demand service, call CPSC's hotline at (800) 638-2772 or CPSC's teletypewriter at (800) 638-8270. To order a press release through fax-on-demand, call (301) 504-0051 from the handset of your fax machine and enter the release number. Consumers can obtain this release and recall information via Internet gopher services at cpsc.gov or report product hazards to info@cpsc.gov.
