WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 24) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission
(CPSC) today issued a notice of violation in the matter of WHAM-O Manufacturing
company.
The Commission charged that WHAM-O failed to immediately inform CPSC
that they had received information which reasonably supported the conclusion
that certain WHAM-O products contained a defect which could create a substantial
product hazard.
The Commission assessed a proposed civil penalty in the amount of $125,000
in this case, which involved WHAM-O's Power-master Crossbow, model nos. 106 and
108 (rifle), and Powermaster Pistol Crossbow, model no. 718 (pistol).
The Company will be given the opportunity to negotiate a settlement,
and failing to do so, the case will be tried before an Administrative Law Judge
under the Commission's new rules for expedited civil penalty proceedings under
the Consumer Product Safety Act.
