CPSC Announces Miniature Christmas Light Meeting

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Mar. 22) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) invites any person interested in developing a mandatory standard for miniature Christmas tree light sets to meet with the Commission's staff April 7, 1977.

The Commission has preliminarily determined that miniature Christmas tree light sets present unreasonable risks of injury from fire and shock and that a mandatory safety standard is necessary to reduce or eliminate these risks. The Commission intends to publish on March 31, 1977, a notice in the Federal Register initiating a standard development proceeding for these decorative light sets.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss procedures and requirements to be followed in developing the standard as well as technical and other information prepared by the Commission's staff.

The April 7th briefing will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Room 456, Westwood Towers Building, 5401 Westbard Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland. For further information, contact Lucious Johnson, Office of Standards Coordination and Appraisal, 301/492-6470.

Packets of information regarding the standards development proceedings are available from the Office of the Secretary, CPSC, Washington, D.C. 20207, 202/634-7700.
